How will I work with you?
When we agree to work together, it will be me that you work with. I will be the one completing the entire proofreading or proof-editing project. I do not subcontract work to other proofreaders or editors and I do not use artificial intelligence (AI).
Packages and rates
Proofreading
If you have a proofreading project, please contact me with some basic details:
Is it fiction or non-fiction?
What format is it in (e.g. MS Word or PDF)?
What is the word count?
When do you need it proofread by?
It would be brilliant if you could also send me a sample of around 500–1,000 words from the middle of your text at this stage. I will then proofread the sample free of charge for you. Once I’ve done this, I can work out how many hours it might take to proofread the whole document. Your personalised quote will then be sent to you and we can get the ball rolling. As a rough guideline, my rates usually start at £25 per hour for proofreading. As all things education are close to my heart, I offer a 10% discount for full-time students.
Proof-editing
The process will be exactly the same as with proofreading above, but usually there will be more intervention required (such as editing, rewriting and restructuring). My rates reflect this and will start at £30 per hour.
What does proofreading usually cost?
As a guideline, the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) suggest £29.85 as a minimum hourly rate for proofreading. Please see the suggested minimum rates on their website.
Please note: If you need a very quick turnaround, then the quoted price will reflect this.
