Are you looking for the final important polish on your document before it is published?
Are you a publisher, publishing service, magazine, business, charity, not-for-profit or independent author?
You want a friendly, professional proofreader who will support you every step of the way. I can help you to reach the final stage with your writing, so that it is polished and ready for the reader.
I'm a proofreader, education consultant and educational resource writer based in the UK and an Intermediate Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). I enjoy working on a wide variety of projects across different genres of non-fiction and fiction.
My specialisms are education and UK primary English (reading, writing, grammar and phonics). I often work on projects for education publishers and education businesses as I can utilise my wide range of skills and experience gained from working in education. I would also welcome opportunities to proofread children's books (non-fiction and fiction).
I’ve completed a number of editorial courses provided by the CIEP, the Publishing Training Centre (PTC), the PMA Centre for Media Excellence and the London School of Publishing. I’m an active member of the CIEP, attending local forum meetings and their annual conference as an online delegate.

What is proofreading?
Once the words of a text have been checked by an editor (usually in Word), they will be ready for a typesetter or designer to place them into their final layout (usually in PDF). The text is now called the ‘proof’, and it is ready for the proofreader to check it.
In a traditional publishing workflow, this is the final stage in the process before publication. The proofreader completes the last vital checks on spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax and layout. After the proofreading process is complete, the document will be in excellent shape and ready for its audience.
What is the traditional publishing workflow?
There is a helpful diagram provided on the CIEP website which shows the stages of the publishing workflow. Please see the link below.
About proofreading and editing
Proofreading a sample
I’ll always offer to proofread a short sample for you free of charge. This is an important step in the process, as every project is unique and requires a bespoke quote. Some texts have extra layers of complexity, for example a book that has a large number of figures and tables. Therefore, my quote will be based on the sample provided, the information given and the timescale.
‘Thank you so much for this and for doing such a lovely meticulous job…you have found things that hadn’t previously been spotted. Thank you very much!’
